چکیده
Abstract. In recent years, flash floods have repeatedly occurred in temperate regions of central western Europe. Unlike Mediterranean catchments, this flooding behaviour is unusual. the past (especially 1990s), been characterized by predictable, slowly rising water levels during winter and driven westerly atmospheric fluxes. Here, we explore potential links causes between occurrence Europe to extreme precipitation specific conditions. We hypothesize that a change conditions has led more frequent events subsequently triggered flood To test hypothesis, compiled data on selected above 40 mm h−1 from radar (the RADOLAN “Radar-Online-Adjustment” dataset German Weather Service). Moreover, identified proxy parameters representative favouring ERA5 reanalysis dataset. High humidity (q) lower troposphere (q≥0.004 kg kg−1), sufficient latent instability (convective available energy (CAPE) ≥ 327 J weak wind speeds 10 m a.g.l. 500 hPa (WS10m-500hPa≤6 s−1) proved be characteristic intense rainfall can potentially trigger floods. relied linear models analyse years worth (1981–2020) as well related events. found significant increases moisture content instability. Parameters representing motion organization convective systems remained largely unchanged considered period (1981–2020); however, number events, their maximum 5 min intensities, hourly sums were large interannual variations, no trends could 2002 2020. Our study shows there single mechanistic path leading The interactions processes involved are so intricate analyses which consider other relevant factors, such intra-annual patterns or catchment-specific parameters, required.

Extreme flash floods in Barcelona County
In this paper the catastrophic and extraordinary floods occurring in Barcelona County (Catalonia, NE Spain) are studied, in order to characterise the temporal evolution of extreme flash floods in that area and their main features. These events usually cause economical losses and major problems for undertaking daily activity in Barcelona city. This kind of floods is a very common feature in the ...
متن کاملAssessment of Vulnerability to Extreme Flash Floods in Design Storms
There has been an increase in the occurrence of sudden local flooding of great volume and short duration caused by heavy or excessive rainfall intensity over a small area, which presents the greatest potential danger threat to the natural environment, human life, public health and property, etc. Such flash floods have rapid runoff and debris flow that rises quickly with little or no advance war...
متن کاملSimulation of Tsunami and Flash Floods
Impacts to the built environment from hazards such tsunami or flash floods are critical in understanding the economic and social effects on our communities. In order to simulate the behaviour of water flow from such hazards within the built environment, Geoscience Australia and the Australian National University are developing a software modelling tool for hydrodynamic simulations. The tool is ...
متن کاملMental models of flash floods and landslides.
Perceptions of flash floods and landslides were analyzed in four communities of the Bavarian Alps using the mental model approach. Thirty-eight qualitative interviews, two telephone surveys with 600 respondents, and two onsite interviews (74/95 respondents) were conducted. Mental models concerning flash floods are much better developed than those for landslides because the key physical processe...
